2nd South Hylton Guides and Brownies

2nd South Hylton Guides and Brownies were asked by our local councillors to help create a special display for the cenotaph in South Hylton. We were tasked with making hundreds of poppies from florists ribbon in time for the annual Remembrance Sunday parade that the Guides and Brownies always take part in.

When we received the email from county office about applying to Remembered for ‘there but not there’ silhouettes the Guides thought this was the perfect opportunity. The Guides made an application and were successful. We were awarded 10 silhouettes.

The Guides put an appeal out to community for suggestions of where to place them. By Remembrance Sunday they were placed at various points along the route of the parade.

The role the guides and brownies played in this community event had a real impact and the response from the community was quite overwhelming.

Girls take what they do in guiding with them as they grow up. Everything from working in a team, to taking the lead, to speaking out on issues they care about. It helps them develop the skills and confidence to become the young women they want to be. ’
